We present an overview of events and on-going discussions in the International academic community with respect to free and open knowledge. We discuss the extraordinary confussion on the subjects of ownership, authorship and copyrights among author and publishing houses. Confussion which is leading to the arising of Institucional Repositories as a alternative and substainable form for publication, distribution and preservation of academic contents.
