BASTARDO, Hilda; SOFIA, Sara; NAVA, Luis  e  RANGEL, Carolina. EFFECTS OF AFLATOXIN B1 CONCENTRATION AND EXPOSURE TIME ON HEPATIC CONDITION IN THE RAINBOW TROUT. INCI [online]. 2006, vol.31, n.6, pp.437-440. ISSN 0378-1844.

The effect of exposure to aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) on the rainbow trout liver condition was determined. 3600 fertilized eggs of 13 days and 5,36cm of diameter were separated in groups of 200 eggs and placed in 18 plastic containers. The AFB1 concentrations used were 0.55 and 0.75ppm for the experimental group and 0 for the control group, with exposure times of 1 and 2 hours, and 3 repetitions for treatment. After exposure to AFB1 the eggs were returned to the incubators until eclosion. Every three months 10 specimens per concentration, repetition and exposure time were sacrificed. The livers were grouped, according to macroscopic characteristics, in four categories: normal liver, pale, spotty and with tumoral growth. Logistic regression analysis showed significant differences between the two AFB1 concentrations and the control group, while exposure time did not affect the liver condition. Trouts with liver tumors were observed at 7 (3.33%), 9 (6.67) and 13 (57-60%) months old, respectively, with the two AFB1 concentrations used.
