Abstract

JAIMES, Edgar J.; MENDOZA, José G.; RAMOS, Yalitza T.  and  PINEDA, Neida M.. MULTIFACTORIAL AND PARTICIPATIVE METHODOLOGY FOR THE EVALUATION OF AGROECOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DETERIORATION OF TWO RIVER BASINS IN TRUJILLO STATE, VENEZUELA. INCI [online]. 2006, vol.31, n.10, pp.720-727. ISSN 0378-1844.

A participative and multifactorial methodology was applied to evaluate the agroecological and environmental deterioration of the microbasins Rio Blanco and El Socorro, located in the subbasins of the Escuque and La Palma rivers, respectively. Both subriver basins belong, geographically, to the Trujillo State, Venezuela. Field trips were conducted to observe in situ some conditioning characteristics of the increasing deterioration shown by these microbasins. Based on the methodological instruments matrix cause-effect and matrix problem-solution, the level of deterioration of these microbasins was determined. The global analysis of the environmental deterioration was conducted for both areas, applying parametric relations defined by the authors in previous studies. It was determined that the Río Blanco microbasin exhibits a deterioration value (VD) of 678, and that in El Socorro microbasin VD= 572. According to this methodology it can be concluded that the most relevant causes of deterioration are the absence of a territorial ordaining plan and the lack of technical management by government entities. It is recommended to define an environmental and agricultural operational plan able to identify priorities and design viable, feasible and sustainable productive projects in the agricultural, forestry and agroforestry sectors for these microbasins
