The results achieved in the framework of two international research projects (MEDRAP and AIDCCD) directed to know the state of the art in the use of desertification benchmarks and indicators (B&I) in the five Annexes recognized by the International Convention to Combat Desertification and Effects of Drought (UNCCD) are reported. Guided by the interest in learning about the existing experiences at international level regarding the fight of desertification and in inquiring into the extent to which the B&I methodology recommended by international spheres had facilitated the process, a worldwide exchange of researchers was promoted. The process of data collection and analysis being finished, the present study informs on the results accomplished for the case of Latin America and the Caribbean.
