Abstract

BRACHO ARELLANO, María Claudia et al. Local resection by hydro-dissection of a giant neurofibroma. Case report. RevVenezCir [online]. 2024, vol.77, n.1, pp.40-43.  Epub Feb 14, 2025. ISSN 0378-6420.  https://doi.org/10.48104/rvc.2024.77.1.3.

Introduction:

Neurofibromatosis is a group of disorders related to the nervous system that causes tumor growth around nerves. This includes neurofibromatosis type 1, a disorder characterized by the formation of neurofibromas of variable size in different parts of the body, that despite of its benign nature, they can cause significant morbidity and psychosocial discomfort due to their severe disfiguration.

Clinical Case:

38-year-old female patient who is diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type I when she was 10-year-old, characterized by volume increase at left suprascapular area, with a progressive and fast growth during the last 4 months until reaching the size of 34 x 23,7 x 47,6 cm; anatopathological and imaging studies reveal and confirm the diagnosis. Surgical resolution is decided by hydrodissection, which allowed a quick detection of the vascular pedicle for its subsequent clamp, cut, ligation and exeresis. Esthetic evolution is favorable, without any post-surgical outcomes.

Conclusion:

currently, hydrodissection is at the height of surgical procedures because it has proven to be truly effective in cases that, in the past, would have been thought to be treated only by entering the operating table.
