Method:

Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional clinical study sponsored by the Venezuelan Society of Coloproctology (SVCP). The registration of patients was carried out by members of such society distributed in all political-administrative regions of Venezuela. Results: 354 patients were registered: 143 with colon cancer, 137 with rectal cancer and 74 with anal cancer. Colorectal and anal cancer was diagnosed mainly in people between 45 and 65 years old. Regarding sex, no significant difference was observed for colon cancer. Rectal cancer predominated in men (p<0.01) and, anal cancer was more common in women (p<0.001). Adenocarcinoma was the most common histological type of colon (93.7%) and rectal cancer (89.8%). The predominant location of colorectal cancer was in the sigmoid colon, 68/143 cases (47.5%), and in the lower rectum, 66/137 (48.17%) (p<0.001). Stage III was the most frequent, for colon (49.25%) and rectal (50.4%) cancer. The predominant anal cancer was epidermoid (95.9%) and stages II and III were equally frequent (36.5%).

Conclusion:

The Venezuelan Registry of Cancer of the Colon, Rectum and Anus (REVECCRA) of the SVCP shows results not previously reported. Cancer registries allow us to design effective strategies against these pathologies, therefore, we encourage organizations interested in oncological diseases to carry out these studies.
