A rural participative diagnostic was conducted to evaluate two communities in La Cañada de Urdaneta Municipality, Zulia state, as a base for the Plan de Desarrollo Rural Integral Sustentable (DRIS) of the Corporación para el Desarrollo de la Región Zuliana (CORPOZULIA). The research had considered and based on elements of the participative research, a non descriptive experimental research-action. The population was composed by 416 producers, located in «La Chinita» and «Los Bienes» communities (very dry tropical forest). Workshops were made to stimulate the enrollment, characterize the communities and identify the problems; in addition an economical-technicalsocial survey was applied to a sample (57%). La Chinita and Los Bienes communities have a young population, whose average was 28 and 29 years old respectively, agriculture had represented for a 41% of the economic activity in La Chinita community and 31% in Los Bienes. Homes were in a poverty situation, in addition to this, there were lacks of water, electricity, roads, education and health, besides there was personal insecurity and lack of properties of land registries.
