Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is the oil crop that produces the most oil quantity per area unit and it can cover in the future the demand of vegetable oil in Venezuela. The oil palm field has good conditions to develop pest and disease in Zulia state, Venezuela, like leaf blight or pestalotiopsis, caused by Pestalotiopsis palmarum and Pestalotiopsis glandicola, which are spread by lacewing bug Leptopharsa gibbicarina. To verify the P. palmarum pathogenicity on oil palm, were inoculated nursery-oil palm plants. This study was carried out in the vivary of central university of Venezuela. A fungi suspension from leaflet of adult plants with foliar spots was used as inoculum. The fungal isolate was previously identified by using the light. Inoculated plants were kept in a wet chamber and then transfer to a greenhouse until symptom development. Disease symptoms were shown in inoculated plants without injury. The fungi was recovered from inoculated plants and identified as P. palmarum, corroborating its pathogenicity.
