Abstract

VILCHEZ, J et al. Effect of the N6-benzylaminopurine on in vitro multiplication of cocoyam (Xanthosoma sagittifolium L. Schott). Rev. Fac. Agron. [online]. 2009, vol.26, n.2, pp.212-222. ISSN 0378-7818.

In the micro propagation is very important to establish the hormonal balance for each one of the phases of process. Therefore, an essay was carried out to determine the appropriate concentration of cytokinin for the induction of cocoyam shoots Xanthosoma sagittifolium L. Schott in multiplication phase. The effect of 0, 2, 3, 4 mg.L-1 of N6 benzylaminopurine (6-BAP) concentrations was evaluated in two sub-crops, on the number, shoots longitude and biomass, total fresh biomass, discarded tissue biomass and index of growth increase. It was evident that the incorporation of 2 mg.L-1 6-BAP in the culture media was decisive for the shoots induction; while the rest of the evaluated variables showed higher values with the increase in the sub-crops numbers. It is conclude that the use of 6-BAP improved the multiplication and quality of the cocoyam shoots in comparison to control.

Keywords : shoots; cytokinin; cocoyam; Xanthosoma sagittifolium.
