In this work we attempt to approach the effects of ¿subjective? memory for the construction of an identity, that of a writer, during the exercise of his autobiography. In Gabriel García Márquez’s Vivir para contarla, we have found clues that lead us to assume that in his work, there is a kind of emphasis on the autobiography as a justification of what he became to be, that is, a demonstration of a Latin-American writer’s bildung. On the other hand, we also explore the novel as an inter-genre work, since it compiles features of both testimonial writing and memoirs, which are classified as witings or narratives of the self.
