During Juan Vicente Gómez’s government two groups emerge for the aesthetic development in Venezuela: The Círculo de Bellas Artes and La Generación del 18. Both have been considered modern movements due to their novel proposals in the aesthetic field. In this work, we would like to develop one of the aspects of these groups that have been less studied. Specifically, we will examine the actions that they carried out in order to reach independence from governmental regulations as well as the attempt to become consolidated autonomous groups. To do so, we intend to show how these groups were committed to create and enlighten a public that would allow them to acquire independence and make their occupation a profession.
