Mereology of event (ME), is a theory of aspect that studies the part-whole relations and aims at providing a unified theory that explains change. In this sense, it proposes an analysis in two phases in which only distinguished process (DP) and distinguished point (Dp) need to be lexically specified for verbs that express change in the physical sense (movement), as well as in the abstract sense (state, possession). In this research work, our aim is to analyze the event structure of verbs of change of state. The theoretical framework is the ME stated by Pi (1999), framed within lexical semantics in generative grammar. An interesting result is that, in the outline of event of verbs of change, the Dp, the tense of the event and the segment of change coincide due to the fact that it is a punctual event. Some conclusions are: (i) verbs of change of state are lexically specified for the Dp; (ii) these are verbs of achievement and of immediate achievement; (iii) the linguistic context of the verb influences its aspectual reading.
