The aim of this study is to examine the story “Contracuerpo” (Counterbody) (1988) of Wilfredo Machado, the process of rewriting of “Arco secreto” (Secret Arch) (1947) of Gustavo Díaz Solís and “La mano junto al muro” (The hand by the wall) (1951) of Guillermo Meneses. Also, we aim at analyzing the characteristic features of narrative of the 1080s that are present in the text. On the basis of literary theorists a diversity of re-writing processes are discussed: verbal repetition, repetition and difference, digressions, second formulation of devices, story and characters. In the light of post modernity theorists and other critics, argumentations about postmodern trends and other textual traits of the story are reinforced. As a conclusion, the meanings in “Contracuerpo” derive from re-writing: as it refers the reader to previous texts and joins a new narrative contexture with its own nature, it induces the effect of continuity between the preceding short story and that of the 1980s.
