Although the 1960s and 1970s have been approached by criticism in terms of literary movements and genres -which are also considered here -, and in order to sketch a new critical attempt, this article aims at identifying clues of discursive change, as well as others related to the process of urbanization, urban growth and cultural change that help revisit the novelistic and essayistic corpus of Venezuela of these decades. The record of clues, the dialogue between both genres -novel and essay- and the articulation of moments with special concern for urbanization are the fundamental guidelines of the research work “The city in the Venezuelan imaginary of the XX century”. This article is conceived of as the introduction to the third part of that research work.
