MORALES, Ana María. Written texts production by deaf school children. Letras [online]. 2009, vol.51, n.79, pp.159-190. ISSN 0459-1283.
The problem approached in this research work refers to the difficulties that deaf school children present in the production of written texts in Spanish as a second language. The min aim proposed was to design writing projects that may allow the production of coherent written texts in Spanish as a second language to deaf students in the first stage of education. The methodological procedure finds support on field research with a qualitative approach. The participants were 20 deaf students of an especial school in Caracas. The study was carried out in four stages: a) linguistic formation of teachers; b) design of writing projects; c) implementation of writing projects; and d) evaluation of strategies employed for each of the writing projects. Among the most relevant conclusions we can foreground: the scarce contact of participants with written materials; the use of sign language as mediator in meaning construction; and the lack of knowledge of Spanish grammatical aspects.
