The aim of this study is to reflect upon the characters’ identity in the novel El tornavoz of the Mexican writer Jesús Gardea. This analysis is based, above all, on the figure of the main character Cándido Paniagua. It is an attempt to explore, on the one hand, the relationship between the configuration of plot and character’s identity, and on the other, those traits that allow the reader to re-figure his temporality and understand him through his specific actions. In order to develop such reflections, Paul Ricoeur’s analysis of plot as related to narrative identity was employed as a starting point.
