Resumen
CHELA-FLORES, Godsuno. The phonetics-phonology interface and the necessary widening of the phonetology objectives. Letras [online]. 2010, vol.52, n.82, pp.47-62. ISSN 0459-1283.
The virtual exclusion of phonetics as a linguistic discipline from the Prague Linguistic Circle distanced the explanations of phonological patterns from the articulatory and perceptual reality up to the point of the excessive abstraction and formalism of classic generative phonology. The opposite reaction from the last third of the 20th century eventually led back to phoneticity as an essential element for the analysis and explanation of oral behavior. In this work the relevance of the concept of body-vocal memory (Chela-Flores,G. 2006, 2007) is analyzed in this context with data of Venezuelan Spanish and other American varieties . Also, the instability of the theory of innate distinctive features, manifested by phonological ambivalence as a product of phonetic ambivalence, is examined. The analysis of both problems leads to the conclusion of an intimate relationship between phonetics and phonology and to the essential role of the former in the interface between both disciplines.
Palabras clave : phonetology; real speaker-hearer; ambiguity; ambivalence; distinctive features.
