This essay aims at approaching the novel of the writer Boris Izaguirre, born in Caracas. To do so, the aesthetic proposals developed in his social chronicles are reviewed. The author himself has framed such an esthetics within the word glamour. Also, a dialogue has been established between the theory of entertainment and the cultural reflection about the Venezuelan’s idiosyncrasy. For the Caracas dandy, Boris Izaiguirre, our identity as country, is defined around two great mythemes: petroleum and the Miss Venezuela contest. As this is an essay, we have ventured to break with methodological traditions so as to make the horizons between Boris’s work and the reader more coherent. On the other hand, with this brief review we attempt, with modesty, to incorporate within the national literary field the work of an author who has not been acknowledged by the canonical criticism, but who has been fairly valued beyond our borders as an intellectual capable of combining the media freedom and the demands of verbal creation.
