This article shows the results of a research work whose general aim was to evaluate the relationship between the application of a didactic intervention proposal, centered on an interactive reading process, and the performance level of the reading comprehension of El Lazarillo de Tormes by students of 8th grade of General Basic Education of a sponsored school at the city of Curicó, Chile. The research approach is quantitative, with a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-test administered to an experimental and to a control group. The sample included 46 subjects, divided into two groups. The results demonstrate that the experimental group subjects, after the intervention, significantly increase their literary reading comprehension, specifically inference of meaning by context and textual interpretation, in comparison with the control group. This study has evidenced the efficacy of didactic strategies derived from the interactive reading model implemented in the classroom.
