Resumen

ANDRADE, Ender. Reflexions around the concept of academic literacy. Letras [online]. 2015, vol.57, n.93, pp.63-80. ISSN 0459-1283.

In this essay, the statements that support the concept of academic literacy are examined. To do so, some of the most outstanding publications of Paula Carlino are analyzed. Carlino is the researcher who has more strongly promoted such term in Latin America during the last decade. In our reflections the benefits of promoting academic literacy are foregrounded (i. e. interdisciplinary work of university teachers in order to attend to their students’ reading and writing deficiencies). Also, some of the main gaps and limitations underlying her statements are discussed (i. e. the graphocentric conception of teaching, the lack of expansion of her principles to other educational levels, among others).

Palabras clave : Academic literacy; reading; writing.
