BERMUDEZ A, F et al. El Desodorante Antitranspirante y su Efecto Arritmogénico por Acción del Aluminio: Experiencia Clínica y Electrocardiográfica en 1.500 Pacientes. AVFT [online]. 2000, vol.19, n.2, pp.117-120. ISSN 0798-0264.

Aluminum is a metal present in most of commercial deodorants as a soluble salt. Apparently, this element is able to produce a wide range of cardiovascular effects like high blood pressure and premature ventricular beats. The aim of this study was to examine 1.500 consecutive patients with clinical and EKG diagnosis of idiopathic premature ventricular beats and the effect of the abolition of such abnormalities with the medical intervention that consisted in: a. omission of the aluminum containing deodorant. B. An antiarrhytmic drug and deodorant omission and c. two antiarrhytmic drugs and deodorant omission. All patient were users of aluminum contained deodorants and did not have any other pathology that could explain this cardiovascular manifestation. Only the cessation the use of deodorants containing aluminum caused a dramatic disappearance of premature ventricular beats in 1.140 patients (76 %). Three hundred patients (20 %) received an antiarrhytmic drug plus deodorant omission and only sixty patients (4%) need two antiarrhytmic drug plus deodorant cessation in order problem. After one month of treatren persist six runths after (end uf the follow -up). The mechanism of action of this effect remains unknown. Further studies must be done in order to dilucidate the role of aluminum and related elements in high blood pressure genesis and oxidative stress related disorders.
