The osteoporosis is a systemic skeleton disease characterize by a low bone density and deterioration of the bone tissue micro architecture, with a following high fragility and susceptibility of fractures. This disease frequently effects postmenopausal women, with women: men ratio that can change between 3 to 8 women for each man. It had showed an incidence of 25% for women older than 45 years and 50% for women older than 60 years. In agreement with the reports of the World Health Organization the number of people older than 65 years had been increace in the later years; actually this group is constitute around 380 millions of people; representing 7% of the total population of the world and from this 80 millions are older tha 80 years. The following review of osteoporosis show this disease as a problem of the world public health, and that is why the knowledge of the risks factors, prevention and treatment are important to the control and/or decrease of the disease.
