Resumen
BERMUDEZ, V et al. Determinación de Lp(a) Sérica en individuos de Maracaibo y Casigua el Cubo, Estado Zulia. AVFT [online]. 2002, vol.21, n.1, pp.117-124. ISSN 0798-0264.
Lipoprotein (a) is an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease. In this sense, the main purpose of this study was to determine Lp(a) serum concentration in a population sample from Maracaibo and Casigua el Cubo (Zulia, Venezuela), where origin prevailed. Eighty-six male and female individuals, older than 10 years, and 184 adults, both men and women, of white race, from Maracaibo (Zulia, Venezuela) were chosen at random. Lp(a) serum concentration was determined by means of a commercial Kit of double monoclonal antibody against Apo-B100 and Apo(a). Serum levels of Lp(a) in people from Casigua el Cubo of all ages and both genders had a minimum value of 38.0 mg/dl and a maximum value of 99.0 mg/dl, with a median value of 57.0 mg/dl. Lp(a) concentrations for the 10, 25, 50, 75, and 90 percentiles were 10.0 mg/dl, 49.0 mg/dl, 57.0 mg/dl, 67.0 mg/dl and 72.0 mg/dl respectively. No significant differences related to sex or age distribution were found. A significant difference (p>0.05) was found when comparing the serum concentration of Lp(a) in individuals from Casigua and a sample of White individuals from Maracaibo.
