Resumen

CAMPOS 1, J. Trastornos Psicóticos Refractarios: Respuesta Terapéutica con el uso de Anticonvulsivantes. AVFT [online]. 2002, vol.21, n.2, pp.162-166. ISSN 0798-0264.

Previous studies have shown a significant percentage of electroencephalographic abnormalities in groups of psychiatric non-epileptic patients. The objective of this research was to revise the presence of abnormalities in the electro-encephalograms (EEG) of a group of 23 psychotic non-epileptic patients and to evaluate the implications in the treatment in those cases with abnormal EEG. 65% Of these patients were non-respondent to the previous treatment. EEG was carried out to all of them and a new treatment was indicated during 6 months. Results: 69.6% of patients had abnormal EEG, 73.9% received anticonvulsive therapy alone or in combination, 70.6% of the patients were asymptomatic after six months. A significant association between the therapeutic response, the abnormal EEG and the treatment with anticonvulsive drug was observed. The above results point to the possibility that the cerebral electric abnormalities are an etiologic factor for a poor pharmacological response in a sub-group of patients with psychoses.

Palabras clave : Anticonvulsive; EEG; Non-respondent Psicosis.
