ABSTRACT A prospective study was made in the Hospital "Domingo Luciani" to evaluate the efficiency of the Hyaluronic Acid (HA) on the articute cartilage. For this were taken 25 patients (30 knees), in patients of bouth sexs and ages between 40-60 years, with diagnostic of Gonarthrosis Incipient (Grades I-II), according to Ahlbäck radiological classification, In which were evaluated the following parameters: Pain, degree of flexion limit, degree of extention limit and damage of the articular cartilage, using arthroscopy before and after the treatment. The study was divided in 3 steeps: Diagnosis, Treatment (15 knees with HA and 15 knees without HA or control). Evaluation and Following (4 months after treatment). The results when bouth groups were compared shaw a big improvement in the evaluated parameters of the patient treated with HA, stadistically demontrated (varianze analysis p<0,001), except in the parameter of degree of extension limit, where was evidenced clinical improvement, but couldnt be demonstrated stadistically. We can conclude from our study that this working protocol was successful in the manegement of Gonarthrosis Incipient and that the HA produces an clinical improvement and promotes the scarring of the articular catilage wounds.
