ALEJANDRO GUILLERMO, Acosta et al. Mecanismos moleculares de la disfunción endotelial: de la síntesis a la acción del óxido nítrico. AVFT [online]. 2006, vol.25, n.2, pp.54-59. ISSN 0798-0264.
The clinical and scientific relevance of synthesis and bioavailability of nitric oxide alterations in endothelial dysfunction is based on the fact that it is a common factor in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. These alterations have been demonstrated in animal models and in humans, in the scope of as dangerous pathological conditions as cigarette smoking, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, aging, diabetes and heart failure. The knowledge of the processes related to these alterations becomes of remarcable importance for the understanding of the genesis of these diseases, and from this point, for the generation of innovating and effective therapeutic strategies in the treatment of these pathologies.
