Several studies have shown that drug-related problems (DRPs) are caused by errors in prescribing, inappropriate choice of medication, interactions of various types and adverse reactions negative effects on health. The aim of this study was to analyze the use of local anesthetics (LA) in the dental practice and identify problems related to their use. Materials and methods: The study was observational, transversal. The sample was composed by a total of 421 patients of both sexes. The basic instrument was a questionnaire interview conducted with patients. We conducted a survey of general dentists, health professionals relating to the use of AL. The sample consisted of 132 male and female dentists. The instrument for data collection was a survey. Results: Patients were 67.9% female and 32.1% male, 79.1% reported that they applied several times, 12.4% lesions observed at the site of anesthetic application, of which 82 , 8% did not seek medical help for the injury, 53.8% were medicated only. In 50.7% of dentists routinely use lidocaine and 49.3% carticaine; to an undesirable effect on medication for 69% expert consultation, 19% investigating the problem and 6% performed a thorough history. Conclusions: Assessment and monitoring of issues related to the use of drugs means a benefit to society as to generate changes in the conduct of professionals, have an impact on their patients.
