Exercise Induced by Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH) has a high prevalence in Thoroughbred horse racing in Venezuela; the most common preventative treatment is the diuretic furosemide. However, its use has caused much debate in world equestrian circles since despite being favorable for the treatment or prevention of EIPH, it has also been suggested that its effect urinary dilution which “masks” identification of other drugs. This represents a current problem; it was decided to address this matter to determine what the effect of the administration in 6 group of two horses of furosemide at a dose of 0.2mg/kg on the concomitant use of acepromazine and dexamethasone, at doses of 0.03mg/kg, 0.08mg/kg, 0.01mg/ kg to 15mg total respectively, triamcinolone 0.01mg/kg and glycopirrolate 1mg/kg. Samples of blood and urine were collected, which was determined by competitive ELISA the detection or otherwise of the foreign substances in question within 72 hours post medication. Blood and urine samples were collected very hour for 72 hours post medication and the samples were analyzed by a commercial competitive ELISA. All substances as well as furosemide were detected in blood and urine throughout the72 hours. In conclusion furosemide did not alter the detection in blood and urine of the tested substances in the first 72 hours post medication in the race horse.
