PEREZ-ALVAREZ, Sneiry et al. Strongyles control through therapy combined strongyle based ivermectin and fenbendazole in horses of thoroughbred racing. AVFT [online]. 2015, vol.34, n.2, pp.21-22. ISSN 0798-0264.

The aim of this study was to a study strongyle control by combination drug therapy based on Ivermectin and Fenbendazole in Thoroughbred horse’s race. The study population consisted of equine Thoroughbreds (Equuscaballus), located at the track “La Rinconada” Caracas Venezuela, which were chosen randomly from 110 foals, with an average weight of 400 kg), every 2 years of age (55 males and 55 females). We collected fecal samples and identified by transrectal palpation individually packaged in bags and transported immediately suitable for evaluation. Stool examinations were performed by the method of Willis to all horses prior to treatment. Each specimen was given Ivermectin (0.2 mg / kg) (ivermectinTopp, injection) 7ml 1% intramuscularly and was administered Fenbendazole (5mg/kg) (Gold * PLUS Calox) 18.8% oral paste 12g. with reassessment coprológica at 7 days). The results show a marked decrease in parasite load combination therapy with ivermectin, fenbendazole. Not removed in its entirety but by 95% at 7 days post treatment. In conclusion, drug therapy based on ivermectin and fenbendazole is much more effective against equine intestinal estrongilosis Thoroughbreds.
