Sufficient intake of fruits and vegetables reduces the risk of developing these conditions due to a high intake of biologically active substances (vitamins, minerals and antioxidants). The Asai (Euterpe oleracea Mart and precatoria Mart) is the fruit of a palm found in the tidal flats of the rivers of the Amazon region. The literature reports that for its high content of anthocyanins, this fruit reduces the levels of free radicals, lipid peroxidation and proinflammatory state. The aim of this review is to explore the phytochemical, pharmacological and therapeutic potential of Asai. Evidence reported a possible cardioprotective and anticancer action in vivo and in vitro.
