Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of endocrine disorders in patients with skin diseases and their association with different types of endocrine disease. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in 107 pediatric patients from the dermatology service of the “Roberto Gilbert Elizalde” Hospital who had a full workup of endocrine tests to estimate endocrine disorders. A model of multiple logistic regression was performed to determine the odds ratios for endocrinopathies. Results: The prevalence of endocrinopathy was 28,0%. A significant association was found between the presence of endocrine disease with age and dermatologic diagnoses. The age group of school children/adolescents had a significant risk for endocrine disease (OR= 5.64, 95% CI: 1.15-27.58; p= 0.033), also the presence of acanthosis nigricans conferred 4.56 times greater risk for endocrine disease (OR= 4.56, 95% CI: 1.62-12.77; p= 0.004). Conclusions: The close relationship between skin diseases and endocrine disorders is presented, in particular with regard to acanthosis nigricans. Endocrine evaluation is recommended in these patients for early detection of endocrine disruptions. This reaffirms the importance of comprehensive and holistic assessment of individuals with skin disorders.
