RODRIGUEZ FONTAL, Mónica y RONDON ESPIN, Auristela. Hipercolesterolemia en la Población Adolescente. RFM [online]. 2000, vol.23, n.1, pp.50-54. ISSN 0798-0469.
We did a research on cholesterol and triglyceride levels in 192 teenagers, 12 to 18 years old. Besides, we investigated the relationship among family backgrounds on cardiovascular illnesses and hypercholesterolemia, daily TV hours watching and corporal mass index and serum lipid levels. Hypercholesterolemia frequency was 22.2%, while hipertriglyceridemia was present in 12% of the teenagers. No statistically significant difference was found in the levels of cholesterol and triglyceride between teenagers with positive family background and those lacking antecedents (p < 0.05). In patients who said to watch TV more than 5 hours a day, tendency was to higher levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. In those with bigger corporal mass index, significantly higher triglycerides levels were found ( <0.05).
