RIVERA, M et al. Valor Diagnóstico y Pronóstico de la Inmunoglobulina "E" En La Cardiopatía Isquémica Aguda. RFM [online]. 2000, vol.23, n.2, pp.107-112. ISSN 0798-0469.
In a descriptive transversal study were included 38 patients admitted to the Coronary Unit of the "Dr. Domingo Lucianis" Hospital with diagnosis of myocardial infarction MI or unstable angina (UA) according to pre-established clinical, electrocardiographic and enzymatic criteria, during July to September 1992, excluding those with history of allergic diseases, allergic asthma, having reccived blood transfusion recently, taking glucocorticoids, having diagnosis of IgE myeloma or hyper IgE syndrome. Eosinophilia was discarded by the means of study of blood smear and intestinal parasites by special stool study. All patients included cholesterol and triglyceride determinations one week afier the presentation of the isquemic event and IgE in serum during days 1, 3, 8, 15 and 21 since the arrival of the patient to the hospital, taking the first blood sample during a mean time of 11 hour. We could appreciate a close association between high IgE values and ischemic heart disease such as myocardial infarction or unstable angina. Serun immunoglobulin E (IgE) in our patients was higher than those values reported for healthy subjects in venezuelan communities or abroad. Furthermore, we found a statistic significant difference between IgE serum values of patients with MI and those with IA, being those values higher in patients with MI Cigarette smoking and age above 53 years seem to predispose to higher levels of serum IgE. According to these observations we could conclude that serum IgE values, smoking and age above 53 could be considered as additional risk factors for ischemic cardiac events.
