Resumen
EVANS, R. Diez Logros Sanitarios más Importantes en el Siglo Veinte. RFM [online]. 2001, vol.24, n.1, pp.20-27. ISSN 0798-0469.
The staff from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, USA, during 1999 published papers considering the "Ten most important sanitary achievements during the last century (1900-1999)". They included a thorough revision through history and their influence in U.S. Public Health. These achievements were considered as follow: Vaccinations (Universally recommended for children), control of infectious diseases, reduction of mortality caused by cardiovascular and brain vascular accidents, recognition of cigarette smoking and other forms of tobacco use, as dangerous to health and the achievement of reduction of the smoking habit, increased motor-vehicle safety promoting security in transport and roads, lowering mortality due to road accidents, improvement in industrial security (occupational security and improvement in workplace safety), improvement in nutrition and safer and healthier food, success in the application of mother and child welfare programs, family planning programs and birth control and, fluoridation of drinking water leading to prevention and control of dental caries. Considering the above mentioned papers, I have considered of interest for our readers the preparation of an abstract of each achievement on Public Health, not only referred to the United States region, but considering their universal effect, despite of the differences that are affecting the different countries of the world and, of course, the considerations as the real achievements. Furthermore, we have tried to comment also their effects in Venezuela.
