GONZALEZ, N; REYES, M  y  RODRIGUEZ-ACOSTA, A. Evaluación del Impacto de las Enfermedades de Transmisión Sexual y su relación con el entorno minero en el Estado Bolívar, Venezuela. RFM [online]. 2001, vol.24, n.1, pp.88-92. ISSN 0798-0469.

The mining zone in study presents a high floating population that lives of the rudimentary extractive mining activity, using hydraulic monitors and sewer, affecting in a irreversible way the landscape and contaminating the physical, social, sanitary and economic environment. Through the application of the investigation-action, referencing the general characteristics of the zone within framework of the environmental health, the local economic activity, the individual and their social relationships, medical-assistance, and quality of life was accomplished the ethnographic study of the population, which describes the local settlement pattern, permitting to put in practice a posteriori validated qualitative techniques with quantitative evaluation techniques. The field work in a first phase permitted the knowledge and interrelationship with the community in order to sensitise them toward the investigation, in a second phase the definition of the sample selected for the clinical and paraclinical exams accomplishment with the epidemiological data survey and a third phase of results accompanied by specific treatments and conclusions delivery to the community. The epidemiological analysis permits to describe the sexual transmission diseases prevalence and their interrelationship with the environment as well as the predominant development model. Once it has been achieved the integration of the data is seen the clear relationships of the ecological triad among the individual, the agent and the local environment, arriving to the need of making positions about development politics in the zone.
