Abstract

PENA, E et al. Ejecución de un Programa para reforzar el Conocimiento del Control de los Factores de Riesgo modificables de Hipertensión Arterial en los Trabajadores de Pequiven Oficina Principal. RFM [online]. 2001, vol.24, n.2, pp.172-180. ISSN 0798-0469.

Arterial hypertension (AHT) is one of the most important public health problems because of its high prevalence, complications, high mortality and morbidity rates and the high costs that its control and treatment imply. It is an important factor in cardiovascular and cerebral-vascular disease development because contributes to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. It is present in both sexes, at any age, causing a diminution in life expectancy. Tobacco, high blood pressure, cholesterol levels, obesity, physical activity, stress, alcohol, salt: they are all considered modifiable risk factors. Control of arterial hypertension (AHT) along with other modifiable risk factors of cardiovascular disease is probably one of the greatest public health problems in the world. The objective of this paper is to determine the effects on the workers of Pequiven´s head office of an educational program aimed at reinforcing knowledge on the control of the modifiable risk factors of arterial hypertension. The program was carried out in the second half of the year 2000.
