CRESPO-ARMAS, A et al. Cambios en la composición Lipídica de las Membranas Mitocondriales de Corazón de ratas inducidos por la ingesta de Aceite de Pescado y su relación con la actividad Mitocondrial. RFM [online]. 2002, vol.25, n.1, pp.29-32. ISSN 0798-0469.
The changes in the cardiac lipid composition induced by diet have been implicated in cardiac function alteration. Fish oil intake has been related to low incidence of cardiac diseases. Mitochondria isolated from insufficient heart showed lower activity than those isolated from normal heart. In this work, fish oil administration reduced the content of C18:2n-6 and C20:4n-6 and also increased the content of C22:6n-3 in heart mitochondria. Fish oil intake increased the respiratory rate in states 3 and 4 (VR3 and VR4) without affects neither phosphorylation efficiency nor the respiratory control index. The possible protector effect of poly-unsaturated fatty acids against free radicals exerted via the enhance of VR3 and VR4 is discussed.
