MOHAMAD, H; MARQUEZ, A y CARDILLO, E. Efecto del Diisopropilfluorofosfato sobre el Recambio de la Serotonina en varias regiones cerebrales. RFM [online]. 2002, vol.25, n.1, pp.104-106. ISSN 0798-0469.
A number of studies suggest that acetylcholine (ACh) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) interrelationship participate on the regulation of physiological and behavioral processes like secretion of corticotropin releasing factor and memory function. The effects of diisopropyl fluorophosphate (DFP), an irreversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, upon the 5-HT and 5-hydroxyindol acetic acid (5-HIAA) levels in six brain regions of the adult rat were studied. The concentration of monoamine and its metabolite were determined by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). The relation metabolite/neurotransmitter was employed as an indicator of neuronal activity. The results indicate that DFP decreased the 5-HIAA levels in hypothalamus, without any modification on the 5-HT levels. In the other brain regions, it was not any change either on 5-HIAA or 5-HT levels.
