ABSTRACT       The erectile dysfunction is a disorder which is characterized by the difficulty to begin or maintain an erection whose quality must be well enough for the sexual fulfillment. This is a problem that affects the masculine population with a direct relation with the age and it can be found in the 80 per cent of men over 80 years. It is an multifactorial disease that requires, by the physician, the clinical history, the sexual history and a complete physical examination, besides the laboratory tests that can guide to the etiology. The available treatments are better day by day, being the most important the sildenafil, which has demonstrated to be very effective.
