ABSTRACT      Determine if there is an association between retinal hemorrhages and intracranial hemorrhage (IH) in acute leukemic patients. Prospective analysis. We made clinical history and funduscopic evaluation. Demographic and clinical characteristics, type of leukemia and funduscopic findings were compared. 32 patients where admitted in the Hospital Universitario de Caracas between May 1998 and July 1999. 30 patients were included. In funduscopic evaluation 18 had intraretinial hemorrhages. From 3 patients with macula’s hemorrhage one had an intracranial hemorrhage (p = 0,166). 7 patients died. We did not found an association between retinal hemorrhages and intracranial hemorrhage (IH) in acute leukemic patients.
