ABSTRACT: SARS or acute severe respiratory syndrome is a new illness. SARS is a serious respiratory illness. A novel coronavirus is associated with this outbreak; the name Urbani SARS-associated coronavirus is proposed. The cumulative number of cases from November 2002 to may 2003 is 5865 and 391 deaths. The most common symptoms include fever, chills or rigor, cough, dyspnea and headache. Inspiratory crackles are the most common physical finding. Patients had abnormal chest radiographs, all of which showed air-space consolidation. The only empirically treatment until now is ribavirina and hydrocortisone.
