DIAZ TREMARIAS, M  y  POSADA L, A. Detección de Drogas de Abuso en Centros Penitenciarios Venezolanos. RFM [online]. 2003, vol.26, n.2, pp.105-111. ISSN 0798-0469.

ABSTRACT: Drugs of abuse is a serious social problem, even more when it takes place within the context of a prison. The objective of the present investigation was to detect the abuse drugs consumption (cocaine and marijuana), in some Venezuelan prisons: West Central Penitenciary (WCP), Lara State (n: 191); Venezuelan General Penitenciary (VGP), Guárico State (n: 135) and Monagas Juridical Internee (MJI), Monagas State (n: 127). The detection of urinary metabolites of cocaine and marijuana was performed through quick and competitive inmunoassay and the positive results were confirmed by enzimatic qualitative inmunoassay. In the database consulted there were no national records of such investigations, therefore, it was considered convenient to realise this study in order to obtain information regarding the situation. In conclusion, of the total of analyzed samples, there is a high number of positive cases (in WCP: 58,1%; in GPV: 37.0% and in MJI: 52,8%) for cocaine and marijuana metabolites.

Palabras clave : Cocaine; Drugs of abuse; Inmates; Marijuana; Prisons.
