CANTELE P, HE et al. Esplenectomía Laparoscópica a propósito de 2 casos. RFM [online]. 2004, vol.27, n.1, pp.19-24. ISSN 0798-0469.
ABSTRACT: Laparoscopic splenectomy is the surgical procedure of election when the extirpation of the spleen is indicated due to benign hematological pathologies, eventhough malignant diseases are not excluded, as well as conditions like portal hypertension and splenomegaly. We present two cases that have been operated at the Hospital Universitario de Caracas, describing the technique used; and reviewing the world literature and comparing different variables, such as blood loss, time of hospitalization, time in returning to daily routines, post-surgical analgesics, surgical timing, and complications; these aspects are compared to those of our experience. We conclude that laparoscopic splenectomy offers better esthetic results, less time of hospitalization, less post-surgical pain, and earlier return to work.
