LEYBA, JL; ISAAC, J; BRAVO, C y RODRIGUEZ, L. Bypass gástrico por laparoscopia para la obesidad mórbida: Comunicación preliminar. RFM [online]. 2004, vol.27, n.2, pp.125-130. ISSN 0798-0469.
Our initial experience with the laparoscopic gastric bypass for morbid obesity in 5 patients is reported. All the cases were female with a median age of 36 years and a median BMI of 43 Kg/m2. The procedure was completed by laparoscopy in four patients with an average operative time of 6 hours and without intraoperative morbidity. The postoperative course was good, with one minor complication (wound abscess), treated successfully as an outpatient. The laparoscopic gastric bypass offers a new option with excellent results for the patients with morbid obesity reducing the morbidity and the recovery time of the open procedure. However its a demanding surgery that must be done by surgeons with training in bariatric surgery as well as in advanced laparoscopic techniques.
