This paper critical rewiew the meaning of evidence-based. Applications of evidence based medicine tools in surgery have elicited opposing reactions. The stronger contrary position argues that EBM cannot be applied in surgical filed because the impossibility to develop such enough randomized controlled trials. Evidence based medicine, involves other activities, such as critical appraisal of the medical literature, development of analytic and methodological skills, production of research questions and design of investigations, qualities unknown or denied by its opponents. If the general surgeon and the professor is able to manage these strategies of EBM and can apply them in the daily work, they lead to better results in the practice of surgery.
