Abstract

Technological progress and recent social changes pose new horizons for the medical sciences at several levels. The physician education must include all the necessary tools for the comprehension of the patient. With this in mind, the Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Central de Venezuela, has developed the syllabus of the subject psychiatry that is imparted to medical students. The objective is to assess the set of psychological factors that are involved in human suffering in order to facilitate in the student the development of a clinical judgement that allows an integral approach to the evaluation of the patient. The methodology included a participative construction of the design, application conditions and the established analysis categories. The results have allowed a permanent evaluation of the process, design modifications have shown important changes in the motivation and attitude of students, provide valuable data for the teaching of specific issues, reveal difficulties inherent to team teaching work, and the importance of horizontal and vertical integration with other subjects.
