The present investigation had like objective to know aspects related to the maternal lactation practiced by 267 mothers from the first yerar of age in children to the 3 years of age, by means of the application of questionnaires (with open and closed answers), in ambulatory of the Capital District of Caracas: The Valley, Alberto Ravell and Cochecito. Predominated the social layers working and marginal according to Graffar Modified with an average of 5.68 members by family, only 9 % of the total sample belonged to layer III. The mothers showed their predilection by maternal lactation in it exclusive forms right during six months; but only 6.88 % practiced it, 49.38 % did it for less time; finally a 36.38 % inclined by the mixed lactation. The information received in to char them is not influenced in the decision of the mothers to decide on the exclusive lactation during the first six month of childern life.
