BENITEZ-GUERRA, Gidder y DE CONNO ALAYA, Alfonso. Inducción del trabajo de parto con misoprostol oral y vaginal. RFM [online]. 2007, vol.30, n.1, pp.61-67. ISSN 0798-0469.
A prospective, descriptive, randomized trial was realized in 114 patient admitted in the Obstetrician Service at Hospital Universitario de Caracas, between June, 2004 and March 2005. They were distributed in two groups in order to comparing the efficacy and security of oral and vaginal misoprostol in labor induction. Sixty five patients (Group "A") receive 50 µg of oral misoprostol every 3 hours, for 3 doses and 49 patients (Group "B") 50 µg of vaginal misoprostol every 3 hours, for 3 doses. The group "A" had 81 % vaginal delivery and 19,3 % of complications and the group "B" 57,5 % and 42,5 % respectively (P< 0,05). The most frequent complication in both groups was stationary cervical dilation. There were not statistically significant differences between both groups in terms of general characteristics, additional use of oxitocin, latency period, length of labor, uterine hyperstimulation and abnormal fetal heart rate. We concluded that oral misoprostol is as effective and secure as vaginal misoprostol for induction of labor in pregnant woman at term.
