Abstract

Uveitis is a general term who makes reference to the inflammation of the uveal tract. In 70 % of the cases is possible to stablish a causal relation between different types of uveitis and local and/or systemic disease. In the 30 % rest of cases, is not possible to associate with primary ocular or systemic disease. We present the case of a 52 years old male patient who consults for visual acuity decrease in both eyes, 3 months of evolution. In the first ophthalmic evaluation we considered it bilateral panuveitis in study. Serological test were made including VDRL, FTA-abs and HIV, negatives. After 21 days of treatment, in view of the dissociation between clinic and laboratory, the patient was hospitalized and new serological and cerebral spinal fluid VDRL was reactives, and HIV Western Blot was positive. The diagnosis was syphilitic bilateral panuveitis, neurosyphilis and adquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Cristallin Penicillin was administered (24.000.000 IU/day) for 21 days, with a satisfactory evolution, and visual acuity was recovered
