ABSTRACT:     Therapeutic use of natural products, such as any other medicines, must be sustained on known risk-benefit balance, which has been proved on scientific bases. Several selected pharmacological and clinical studies on standardized extract of Panax ginseng root are evaluated as an example of the research work that can be done with this kind of substances.     Reanalysis of concepts like "coadjuvant or complementary therapy" is suggested because those may be inaccurate and, likewise, it is proposed to go deeply in the study and discussion on risk-benefit analysis of natural product therapy.
